Trading... is it worth it?
For me, no. I don't see in anyway it benefits me better than other jobs that I have. That's TL;DR for you. I'll dive deeper bellow.
Let's start with explaining the phylosophy of trading
Trading is not the same as investing. Trading does not create any real value whatsoever. Please don't misinterpret with traditional Trade. Trading in this context will be Day Trading
In the core, trading is just the process of transfering money from one to another. There are many forms of financial trading but that is the core okay? Trading doesn't create any more real value to the society. So what does a trader make? nothing just a bunch of people betting on something and they either win or lose.
I have read too many articles and watched so many videos and they all boil down to 2 facts:
1. Trading is the game of human psychology
2. Use what ever method you want, Technical Analysis or Mind Reading or anything else, as long as you are making profit consistently, you are considered a trader not a gambler.
With that being said, why not I trade anymore? I have been through the process. I have been a Gambler and evolved to Trader and went from making 2x money a day to go back to the begin line. I have been through those steps and become consistenly making money. Then I tried to implement a bot using Freqtrade to trade for me. It wasn't successful but I can say it does work for a while and it would break. So to sum it up, I've successfully become a Day Trader.
And I stopped
I am a developer fulltime. I had to stopped being a developer in a way to became a trader. And I don't like that tradeoff. Maybe there are people who can do devs, trading, making videos. But I'm not that type. I can make money from both trading and developing. But just like an idea of trading that "as long as you still make profit, losing trades doesn't mean it's bad" which means as long as I can still make money to provide my family, losing a job doesn't mean it's bad. Overall I can confidently say that I can even make more money than trying to do both jobs. I can focus on being a developer.
Okay that's enough subjective, let's go objective
I am not advising here but I really don't think one should be trading. I am that one who should not be trading.
There are several points I want to make really clear. When you enter the trading world, you are most likely the one who lose money. Why? Because ~90% of people will lose money to those few % of people who make profit. I told you earlier, it's just one chunk of money and it flows around traders who bet on a number moving up or down. Hey I feel the need to remind you trading is not investing, they are different. That's statistic and probability, no matter who you are and how good you are, when you enter trading you will likely lose. And that will drives you insane and guess what? You must be as sane as you can in order to make consistent profit. One second, one stupid trade can screw up your mind and the domino effect will just go off until you realize you shouldn't be doing this.
Sounds like personal again? NO. It's not personal, I have never lose too much like that. But in this psychology game, nothing is predictable. The conciousness is the most unpredictable in the universe. I will write another article about that later. I think depleting your sanity like this is stupid. This is not a thing you do in your freetime, it's a fulltime job okay? That may put it back to perspective. Also only top few % wins. Whilst doing other jobs like developer will have room for everyone, some fields will have enough room for everyone and a lot more percentage of people in that field could be making money and aquiring skills that actually produce real value to the society.
Conclusion
Do whatever you feel like doing, listen to whoever you like, risk whatever you want but in the end
Trading does not worth it.
I will do other jobs, build my career, make money, invest the money and provide my family.
Oh I think this is a perfect topic to relate to The Art of War. Yes I will write another post to address this.
